Schiller International University Group is to close its UK campus, blaming the government’s student visa cuts.
Under government immigration plans, the number of student visas issued over the next five years will be reduced by around 260,000 – an average cut of 52,000 a year. Opponents of the move say it will severely undermine the UK’s £40 billion international education market.
From July 2011, the number of Federal Skilled Worker visas will be cut by half – dropping from 20,000 to 10,000 per year. Only 500 applications for each eligible occupation will be considered (down from 1,000).
